Warwickshire Open Studios Plein Air at Charlecote Park
September 2024
I am thrilled to announce that my hand-embroidered piece, featuring the iconic Jacob sheep of Charlecote Park, received a Highly Commended Award at the Plein Air event hosted by Warwickshire Open Studios. It was a truly inspiring experience to participate in this gathering of creative talent in such a breathtaking setting.
The event began on a rainy note, but that didn’t dampen the creativity! I set up my hoop in Places Meadow, where I was surrounded by Charlecote's resident Jacob sheep. They are an ancient breed of sheep with a distinctive black-and-white coat and impressive horns.
For this artwork, I collected wool left behind in the fields and on the fences by the Jacob sheep, combining it with sustainable materials like recycled wool, banana cotton, linen, and cotton. To bring the sheep’s texture to life, I used techniques including bullion knots, French knots, oatmeal stitch, and Milanese triangles, achieving a fluffy, tactile finish that reflects the sheep’s natural beauty.
Being part of such a vibrant community of artists was wonderful, and I am incredibly grateful for the support from Warwickshire Open Studios. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in making this event possible!
EcoGPX Artist Residency
July 2024
I recently had the pleasure of spending an incredible week in Coventry, participating in the EcoGPX Artist Residency led by Intercultural Roots. It was a truly enriching experience where I engaged in a variety of workshops, gaining new insights into nature, art, and music.
I was particularly delighted to lead a hand embroidery workshop, where we explored the art of stitching self-portraits. It was wonderful to see everyone’s creativity come to life with needle and thread!
Throughout the residency, I had the opportunity to meet many inspiring artists and immerse myself in fascinating discussions about the earth, different art forms, and music. At Fargo Village, where I hosted the embroidery workshop, there were two incredibly talented musicians performing live, adding a beautiful backdrop to the day’s activities. It was a joy to hear them play as we stitched together.
Garden of Tomorrow Festival
June 2024
I was absolutely delighted to have my graduate collection featured at the Garden of Tomorrow Festival, hosted by House of Hackney. The exhibition, Nature the Artist, was beautifully curated by The Great Imagining and showcased my work alongside over 50 other incredible artists. It was an inspiring event, bringing together so many like-minded individuals committed to making a positive impact on our planet.
The festival was a fantastic experience overall! I had the chance to participate in a microgreens and mushroom-growing workshop, which was both practical and fascinating, and I attended several thought-provoking panel discussions. It felt like the perfect setting to display my graduate work, which is made entirely from natural materials sourced directly from the earth.
I encourage you all to explore the online gallery to see the incredible range of artworks that were on display.
